Passive House 2020 Hybrid Conference

June 10th & 11th, 2021

June 10th - 12 AM - 5:30 PM EST / June 11th - 9:30 AM - 15PM EST

"Passive House For All" is a call to action

Our existential environmental, health, and social crises demand that we look beyond isolated symptoms and tackle interlocking systemic causes; across disciplines, from buildings to communities. This event will take on the full range of specialized technical, process, and policy aspects of Passive House one expects from a NAPHN conference – and it will challenge us to make Passive House benefits, tools, and work, accessible to all, and enriched by everyone.

“Part of accessibility is affordability and with early registration the costs to participants are significantly reduced,” said NAPHN Executive Director, Ken Levenson. “With over a 50% reduction from the full price and then with additional discounts for NAPHN membership and a special rate for students, we want to broaden the impact of this event.”

Invite a new voice to join us.

In-Person and Online

This will be a hybrid conference – conducted in-person, in NYC, and through this online platform. You can participate where you are most comfortable. We will be able to operate safely in-person, at a reduced capacity. And you can network online, meet other participants, exchange contact information, and make future plans, with our enhanced networking capabilities.

Please note: In-person attendees will have online access, but as in-person spots are limited we ask that only those intending to join in-person register for in-person, and if your plans change, that you notify us ASAP to make your spot available to others.

Passive House Introduction

Hosted by the NAPHN and New Jersey Passive House

Wednesday February 24, 2021 - 10 AM to 4 PM EST

Join NAPHN and New Jersey Passive House for an Introduction to the Passive House Standard.

Passive House goals and methodology change the way architects and builders think and work, making the architectural design itself a driver of climate, health, and social solutions. This is a 6-hour course that dives into the basic principles, history, certification, and the new frontiers of Passive House design as it continues to challenge and change industry expectations. All theory is then illustrated through several case studies outlining specific Passive House principles.

Course has 6 HSW/LU AIA credits.

The cost is $195.

All participants will receive a webinar link via email.

Virtual Tour of Wythe Windows Factory New Jersey: NJPH and GreenHomeNYC

Tuesday May 5, 2020 - Virtually from 50 Spring Street, Ramsey, NJ 07446

We absolutely need windows in buildings, providing a sense of place and beauty, health-inducing natural light, and an option for natural ventilation. But windows are often the weakest part of the building envelope, where much of the thermal losses, air leakage, and excess solar gain happens. It doesn’t, however, have to be that way: Innovative frame and glass materials and how they are configured together can be optimized to create windows that give all the benefits while dramatically reducing the adverse effects.

Wythe windows factory has been a game-changer when it pioneered local supply for super high-performance windows meeting Passive House and other stringent national building and sustainability standards.

Got an hour? –Come learn how the raw materials are turned into state-of-the-art windows in the Ramsey NJ factory. You can do without getting off your couch on a short virtual tour planned for 5/5 at 4:00 PM, followed by Q and A with Wythe windows team. The Tour will be led by Darren Macri the co-founder of the factory and the founding member and former president of New Jersey Passive House.

Whole-House Ventilation Systems Event

Thursday, April 25th @ 6:30PM - Skylounge - 615 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07306

Whether it’s a single-family house, a multifamily high-rise or a commercial space, fresh air is a basic human need, but supplying it in sufficient amounts without investing an enormous amount of energy in reconditioning the fresh air is only possible through heat recovery ventilation.

But what does that mean in practice for various space configurations and building types? What are the key considerations early on in the design, and where should attention be focused as the equipment installed on site and integrated in the building? Come join a Zehnder presentation by John Rockwell and lively discussion at Skylounge (in Journal Squared) in Jersey City 6:30 PM on April 25th.
